Making sure our families are safe is a top priority.

Whether we’re looking at car seats, strollers, high chairs, swings, sponges or swaddles there are specific guidelines to minimize risk. Like for example, just using the appropriate straps that come with your product is crucial. The fact is, falls are the leading cause of non-fatal injuries for all young children. Every day in the U.S., approximately 8,000 children are treated in the emergency room for fall-related injuries.

Just this year the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) released New Car Seat Guidelines. Even with the best intentions sometimes it is hard to know what actually is safe and stay up to date on the latest technology and research. Celebrity Kim Kardashian recently faced backlash on social media for posting a photo of her child in a forward facing car seat. But Kim, like most parents, is probably not aware of the new guidelines set out by the AAP and with all of the car seats on the market it can be confusing for any parent.

We compiled some of our favorite picks when it comes to safety and convenience for families in the car, on the road, or in their own house. PLUS… we want you to WIN all of these prizes. Head to our Instagram account to enter! (Monday’s post) or:

DIONO RADIAN-RXT CAR SEAT

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) now recommends toddlers be kept in rear-facing car seats at least until the age of 2, with smaller children remaining that way for even longer. Children should not be turned around to front-facing until they exceed the height and weight limit as recommended by the seat’s manufacturer.

A high-back, belt-positioning booster is recommended until your child is at least 4 foot nine inches tall and 8-12 years old.

At Diono, your child’s security is their top priority. Their radian rXT is engineered with a full steel frame and is an all-in-one car seat that provides unmatched safety from birth to booster.

It has a unique superLATCH system and memory foam, plus for an added bonus the radian rXT car seats fit 3-across in most mid-size vehicles.

It can hold children 5 to 120 pounds, folds flat for travel and is has a 10 year life from the date of purchase.

JOOVY BICYCOO BALANCE BIKE AND NOODLE HELMET

What is a balance bike? Balance bikes are training bicycles designed to teach young children how to steer and balance on two wheels. It doesn’t have pedals and are powered with only foot propulsion to teach the fundamentals of riding. One that is mastered your child can transition to a bicycle with ease.

The Joovy Bicycoo won best design awards at Europe’s largest trade show. The frame is made of aluminum so it is strong. The lightweight frame makes controlling the bike much easier for kids, unlike the heavy wooden and steel versions. The tires are pneumatic (air) and refillable. Many balance bikes on the market use EVA plastic tires which are cheaper and wear out much quicker than these rubber tires used on the Joovy Bicycoo. The suspension qualities of pneumatic tires give kids a much smoother ride. There is also a hand brake for the rear tire.

And you can’t get on any time of bike without a helmet! The Joovy Noodle features 14 air vents, integrated bug mesh in the front vents, extended visor for maximum protection, nylon straps, pinch guard chin strap, and an adjustable fit dial. It is a great looking helmet and comes in various colors for kids ages one to four.

Sleep safety is crucial. According to the CDC in 2015 there were about 3700 sudden unexpected infant deaths (SUID) in the United States. These deaths occur among infants less than 1 year old and have no immediately obvious cause. Nine hundred of those deaths were due to accidental suffocation and strangulation in bed.

Five years of research, international patents, and pediatrician approved. Founded by a father, the Kepi Spoon, Kozy Support Swaddle and Dock create the world’s safest swaddle, and has officially set the bar as the new standard in holding your newborn.
