SET THE STAGE

The production design, make up and costumes are what transport audiences to another period in time, and just like a BEST PICTURE film, the key to any Oscar-viewing party is the way you transform the space and really help your family and friends be invested in the outcome while having the best time.

If you love DIY, this is your time to shine. We created ballots — because it’s an absolute must to cast your vote prior to the start of the show and then cheer or groan as your choices win or lose.

And whether you’ve seen all the films up for an award, or you haven’t seen any of them, dressing the part makes you feel like you’re in the middle of all the action. We created gold and black Academy Award-inspired photo props that add some glitter to the evening. And then we found Hollywood glam jewelry from Macy’s — like giants rhinestones, sparkly necklaces and colored gems and more — perfect additions to any outfit. In this case it’s take a look in the mirror and ADD an accessory. Plus we picked up a Fujifilm Instax Instant Camera so we didn’t have to wait to see all our favorite memories from the night.

AWARD-WINNING SNACKS

So many of the movies this year leaned themselves to custom snacks that were not only on theme but delicious too.

We had to start with popcorn! I mean, is it even the movies without popcorn? We say no. So how can you celebrate movies without popcorn?! We went all out and got a Vintage Nostalgia Popcorn Cart from Macy’s because it not only pops enough movie theatre tasting popcorn for everyone at the party, but it doubles as amazing decor anywhere you place it in the room.

Elevating the popcorn comes next — we choose a nominee-inspired toppings bar with pink (Hi, Barbie!) and lavendar (The Color Purple) candies. Plus Flamin’ Hot got nominated so we couldn’t ignore those cheetos as part of the tray. And we rounded it out with traditional movie box candy favorites for those sticking to the upscale aspects of the evening.

Adding some color we thought we’d create drinks to compliment Barbie and The Color Purple snacks so we started with Lemonade (feel free to add any spirits to taste) and turned it into pink lemonade, complete with a pink striped straw and topping it off with pink cotton candy! Similarly, we added purple to the lemonade and created a more moody look for the celebrated remake.

The biggest tips for a successful party are to be creative, have fun, laugh and fit as many people in your living room as you possibly can because when it comes to the movie watching…. a full house is always the goal!
