Musical Hits, Local Ties: A Look at Broadway San Diego’s Upcoming 47th Season

Broadway San Diego has recently announced its 47th season lineup and we have all the nostalgic feels. Local ties, blasts from the past and a few favorites that go from screen to stage, we just had to share all the excitement.

From it’s movie roots in the 1950s, to its Broadway debut in 2022… Some Like it Hot is a beloved comedy and now it’s hitting the stage in San Diego! Filmed locally at the Hotel del Coronado, the classic is one of many favorites in Broadway San Diego’s 47th season.

But that’s not the only show with a connection to America’s Finest City…

The Broadway sensation Wicked returns to take families on an adventure through the land of Oz with a twist to The Wizard of Oz which was written by L. Frank Baum who frequently came to San Diego and enjoyed many winters in Coronado where he wrote Oz-themed sequels.

Great Scott! We can’t forget to let families know Marty McFly and Doc Brown are coming to town for the first time ever. That’s right we’re going Back to the Future! Not only did this cinematic classic turned stage show win Best New Musical but when it hits 88mph it will change your perception of musical theatre history forever.

These are just a trio of the incredible Broadway San Diego season ahead… and right now you can get a 7-show package starting at just $328.

This link: https://www.broadwaysd.com/special-packages/season-subscription-2/ has the pricing and details to get squared away with all 7 shows: Wicked, Moulin Rouge the Musical, Back to the Future, Some Like it Hot, A Beautiful Noise Kimberly Akimbo, and Shucked.

Additionally a highlight of the season is always when Kids’ Night on Broadway happens!

Kids’ Night on Broadway is a program from The Broadway League, the national trade association for the Broadway theatre industry. It is designed to introduce young people to the magic of live theatre and make Broadway accessible to a new generation of theatergoers. During Kids’ Night on Broadway, kids age 18 and under can see a participating Broadway show for free when accompanied by a full-paying adult. Kids’ Night on Broadway events may include everything from in-theatre special hands-on activities, talk-backs, meet-n-greets, photo opportunities, activity books, and more

Our families recently got to experience Kids Night on Broadway for Disney’s Aladdin. We loved getting a chance to see Jasmine’s costume up close. There was also a fun photo opportunity, where we imagined we were on a magic carpet ride. There were also a couple of activities where the kids could try to recreate Genie’s lamp.
