The holidays are here and we’re all about Christmas movies, from favorites to new releases, many movie nights are in our future so Family Entourage is here to share ways to SAVE, and fun ways to SPLURGE, when it comes to elevating your experience!

MOVIE WATCHING LOCATION

Save: Family Room

The obvious spot for family movie night but can still have fun with the space… gather as many pillows and blankets that you have and create a cozy space, or have the kids build a fort, drape a sheet across the room, whatever their the area will support. Light candles or build a fire for that added “flare”

Splurge: Under the Stars

Take the cinema to the backyard or the community park and watch your movie under the stars! Variety of outdoor screens and sizes, get a projector, some speakers and cuddle up in the crisp night air. We suggest a full size movie theatre popcorn cart so family/guests can feel transported and then maybe some theme toys… like watch Home Alone and everyone can have Nerf guns to protect their home and have a little more interactive fun with the theme. Everything can be easily picked up at macys.com

HOLIDAY FILM ATTIRE

Save: Pick a color for everyone to wear

Family matching but by color! This makes it inexpensive and getting dressed is part of the family fun as everyone has to find, and wear, head-to-toe of a single color/shade using whatever they have in their closet, or home. Like if you picked “red” — could be red socks, pants, dress, shorts, hats, jewelry, scarves, gloves… formally or straight out obnoxiously, have fun with all items in one shade.

Splurge: Family matching pajamas or sweaters, and in a holiday movie

Everything is just more fun, and intense when the family is matching. This trend has topped the list for the past several years so we know you’re going to do it… but elevate it by picking pajamas that are the theme of your favorite movie. Like dress everyone in ELF-inspired print or the Polar Express and have the entire family in the whimsical locomotives and believe bells. Star Wars, The Grinch... https://www.hannaandersson.com/family-pajamas/ has all these characters and more, plus festive plaids and holiday sweaters too. Hanna Andersson is our go to for family matching pajamas. From Gnomes and Deers,Stripes and even your favorite characters, we love Hanna Andersson pajamas because not only can the entire family match, but the quality makes them easy to pass down to siblings and cousins. The premium organic cotton makes them so soft that we just want to wear them all day.

PERSONALIZE MOVIE EXPERIENCE

Save: Get popcorn bowl/buckets and write names on them with pen or have kids decorate

Pick up inexpensive bowls/buckets like from dollar store or party city and then can use markers or sharpies and write the names of your family members on the side, or have the kids put stickers and any fun decor. Elevates the evening but might not last longer than the night, however a solid memory is made.

Splurge: Get popcorn bowl/buckets or serving tray and permanently personalize with names and decor

Still pick up bowls/bucket for popcorn but have Cricut elevate all your DIY! Use vinyl, and a whole library of designs and fonts to cut out each family name for a permanent, and washable, item that can be reused for multiple movie nights. You can also do a serving tray, coasters, mugs and more! Creativity is endless, and so incredibly easy, with Cricut.

MOVIE SNACKS AND MORE

Save: Hot cocoa bar with movie-size snacks

A highlight for kids is always the treat! Movie-size snacks are a must and display them in a fun way for kids to pick their favorite and if desired set up a simple hot cocoa bar with marshmallows and candy cane stirrers.

Splurge: Take Out to Replicate Dine In

Replicate the upscale dining movie theater recliner experiences in your own home by picking up an entire meal from a favorite restaurant like Malibu Farms...Let everyone pick their favorite dishes or share a bunch of appetizers. Some of our favorites are the Malibu Mushroom Wrap, ‘Bu Beef Burger, and Cauliflower Crust pizza. Everything is so delicious at Malibu Farms, you can’t really go wrong. We love this idea because sometimes families with younger kids don’t last an entire night out with dinner and a movie.

We also love Malibu Farm’s latest location in Seaport Village. You can take in picturesque views of the harbor while enjoying a meal with your family or friends. All throughout December they are going to be having eco-friendly snow at 5pm and on Christmas eve, Surfing Santa will even be stopping by.
