Whether you’re cheering your favorite team on or you just enjoy watching the commercials and half time show the super bowl is a fun excuse to have a party. We all know that having a family can change the dynamics of any party We share some fun ideas that are family friendly. Yes we were inspired by what we saw on Pinterest but we will be honest on when we failed, when we nailed it and some hacks we found along the way
Getting ready
Encourage your guests to come in their favorite teams jersey, team tshirt or team colors. It can be fun to trash talk with everyone. We love our NFL shirts from Junk Food. They are incredibly soft and we love the vintage look to them. Who says girls can’t love football? These moccasins from Freshly Picked are adorable on any little fan or cheerleader. We also love the Game Day collection hats from Mother Trucker. We had some that said “#Touchdown” and “Gameday” on hand for our guests that didn’t have any football attire.
Decor
I initially bought a football table cloth made out of plastic. It was easier and inexpensive. But when it arrived it looked cheap. I saw the felt football field table cloth on Pinterest and decided to try it. I went to the craft store and realized a yard and half of felt would be about the same price as the plastic one. This was relatively easy to make. I just got the felt, white duct tape and made some numbers. The hardest part was cutting out the numbers. This looked much better than the plastic ones.
I saw the football theme mason jars on Pinterest and thought these would be a perfect way to dress up the table. Only three made the cut! The fourth one which resembles a football field just didn’t turn out well. The other three were easy. I found Mason jars at the local Thrift store and used Gelli acrylic paint. Instead of painting the X and Os I used scrapbook letters. These can be used for silverware or flowers.
Activity
We made a little station where the kids could make a banner for their favorite team or player. This is a great way to keep them engaged. We put out a variety of paper scissors markers and paints from Gelli and let the kids go to town.
Food
Every family has their super bowl favorite recipes. Here are some fun things to add to your favorites. This peanut butter dip is super easy to make. My toddler enjoyed helping mix the cream cheese and peanut butter. Pair it with pretzels and it’s sure to be a hit. Recipe: 1. Combine 2 cups peanut butter, 8oz cream cheese and 1/4 cup butter. Make sure butter and cream cheese are at room temperature so they don’t lump. Use hand mixer to whip. 2. Add 3 cups powdered sugar. Do 1/2 cup at a time. 3. Put mixture on serving platter and form with hands into football. 4. Put chocolate sprinkles on top 5. Use icing to make white laces
