Schools out for the summer! This means time to decompress, spend with family, and maybe even get a little traveling in. All three can be accomplished with a book. Reading for pleasure is a great way to rid any pressures or stress while still keeping your mind sharp and your imagination engaged. Reading can be quality family time too. Whether you are reading a book out loud to the kids, reading individually but all in the same room, or attending a reading at a local bookstore, each option keeps the family connected. Plus, while you may not be physically leaving your city, state or country, a book can definitely transport you to some of the best destinations ever described!
Growing up our local library always did a summer reading program and I remember looking forward to it and I loved the feeling of accomplishment at the end when I looked back at all I had read in a three-month time period. Barnes & Noble has a summer reading program that encourages kids in grades 1-6 to read books over the summer.
The best part of the Barnes & Noble Summer Reading Program is that you can pick your own books and then you can earn a FREE book! Simply follow these three easy steps:
1. Read any eight books this summer and record them in your Summer Reading Journal. Tell us which part of the book is your favorite, and why.
2. Bring your completed journal to a Barnes & Noble store between May 16th and September 5th, 2017. (Find a Store)
3. Choose your FREE reading adventure from the book list featured on the back of the journal.

Also check with your local store because every Saturday Barnes & Noble picks a different book to highlight and be read out loud during a free storytime in the store.
