Score a Touchdown with Your Family for the Big Game

Whether your team has made it to the Big Game or not, this Sunday is one of the biggest football games. For some they will be rooting on their favorite team, for others they will be watching commercials to check out the latest ads, and for others they will be hosting friends and family. Having a party with kids can be challenging especially when the majority of the group is fixated on the game. Couple that with the Big Game being longer than most sporting events, it can make a group of kiddos restless with energy. We share some of the tips that will hopefully help your family and guests score a touchdown!

Here are some of our favorite ideas for families and groups for the Big Game

    • Game Day Ready- Encourage your guests to wear their favorite jerseys. You can even give a prize to the best dressed fan. As guests arrive, have a station where they can create their own signs, banners, pennants and pom poms. Set out construction paper, scissors, markers and even print some team logos.

    • Pregame Fuel-Every player knows that before any game it is important to eat the right foods so that you have enough energy for the entire game. We love putting out a variety of snacks and treats for our family. It is okay to have a cheat day for this party! If you have kiddos at your party, you are going to want to put out some kid-friendly snacks. We love Rice Krispy treats in the shape of footballs.
  • 1st and Ten- Create a fun backdrop or photo booth for your guests to take photos throughout the party. You can take green butcher block paper and use white construction paper to make a ‘field.’ have a basket of props that guests can use for photos including a football, foam finger, pom poms and anything else football-related.
  • Timeout- It is good to have some activities planned for kids if they need to stretch or let some of that energy out. It can be something as simple as setting up a coloring station for them with football coloring print-outs or it can be an activity in the backyard. Whether it is a 5-on-5 flag football game or crab football (think crab walk) and

trying to play football, everyone is going to need a little stand up break at some point.

  • Halftime Show- Most people don’t want to miss the commercials. So create a little Commercial Bingo. Take a Bingo template and fill it with objects that you typically see in football game commercials including; cars, babies, monkeys, etc. Throw some random things in there too. You can even include brands. Then have guests fill it out as you watch commercials throughout the game. You can even reward winners with a prize.
  • Field goal- Set up a mini-field goal in the backyard or living room and have guests compete with each other. Instead of using a football use a foam or soft football so no one or anything gets injured. You can even add an element of challenge by having everyone kick with their opposite foot!
