Growing up our family had Friday night pizza night. We would have pizza and watch a movie or play a board game. It was definitely something we looked forward to each week especially those TGIF years with fun TV shows like Full House, Step by Step and Family Matters. We rotated between frozen pizzas and pizza from our favorite takeout restaurant. And on special occasions my grandma would have us to her house and she would make homemade pizza for all of us. Sometimes we even got to help. Lots of fun memories with our cousins.
Now with our own kids, we continue that Friday family night often with pizza night in. It can be a sigh of relief after a long work week and school activities. Just like growing up we rotate between frozen pizzas and getting takeout. We look forward to watching a movie or doing a family activity together even if it’s just a tickle fight. We have found getting takeout for dinner especially on weekends to be a little less stressful than eating at the restaurant. Restaurants are usually busier during dinner and can take longer to bring our the food, which can be challenging especially with younger kids. While we miss the convenience of eating out, getting takeout enables the kids to play when they’re done eating and the adults can catch up.
One of our favorite pizza spots is Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza and Grill. They have a great selection of pizzas and even have gluten-free options and cauliflower crust. The BBQ chicken is our favorite. Sammy’s also has kits where you can make the pizzas at home. It comes with all of the ingredients you need and for February, the pizza dough is heart-shaped and has a fun Valentine’s message. We think it’s the perfect family date idea for
Valentine’s Day. We also love that $1 of every kit sold goes to a Ronald McDonald House charity The kids love making the pizza from kneading the dough to spreading the sauce and sprinkling the cheese, so many fun memories are made in the kitchen. We made one big heart pizza and they wanted to make bite-size heart pizzas so we used a cookie cutter. They couldn’t wait to eat their creations.
My favorite part was watching them enjoy their pizzas and explain to their grandparents how they made the pizza. They even confessed snacking on the cheese! We paired the heart-shaped pizzas with some of the yummy salads from Sammys. It made for the perfect family date night in.
Our dinner was hosted by Sammys pizza. All of our thoughts and opinions are our own.
