Global Wellness Day

What if one day could change your perspective? Global Wellness day was started eight years ago with that very vision, that “One day can change your whole life.” The purpose of the day is to take a step back and evaluate, “How can I live a healthier lifestyle?” and encourage people to be free from stress. In 2018 it was celebrated in 130 countries at 5000 different locations with different events on. This year, Global Wellness Day will take place on June 8. As parents, we know the struggle of being pulled in different directions with work, family responsibilities and wanting to live a healthy lifestyle. We also value the importance of setting an example for our children so that they can make healthy decisions too. 

Here are 5 ways you can participate in Global Wellness Day wherever you are. 

Find a way to celebrate.  

We are looking forward to attending the Four Seasons Aviara Global Wellness day. Activities include a morning walk along Batiquitos Lagoon, paddle boarding adventure, family yoga, healthy brunch, seed cycling and cooking demonstration, Mala-making workshop, and sunset yoga. During the week we are going in different directions, so we try and spend time doing activities together over the weekend. There are thousands of locations hosting events, so check what your local city is doing. If your city is not participating, come up with your own mini Global Wellness day with your friends. It could be doing something active together and then sharing a healthy meal.

Get active. 

Whether it is going for a walk as a family along the beach, checking out a new hiking trail or taking a class at the gym, try to start your day with a healthy activity. Try not to overwhelm yourself or your family. It is better to start with something achievable and an activity that everyone can get excited about so that they will want to do it again. Remember, this day is about helping to set the foundation for a healthy lifestyle. You could even ask your family what types of activities they would like to do and make a list to try and do throughout the summer. Our family is looking forward to the Family Yoga as part of the Four Seasons Aviara Global Wellness day. The last time we did yoga, I was surprised that my energetic toddler boy was able to slow down and follow the moves.

Refuel. Choosing the right foods for your family is an integral part to everyone’s health. Food is one of our energy sources and often if we are feeling rundown or tired it is because we aren’t receiving the proper nutrients. While it may be easier to pick up fast food, it is not always the healthiest food. Take a step back and assess one way that you can improve your family’s meals. It could be switching out processed snack options for fruit or vegetables. It could be meal prepping some of your meals so that you aren’t scrambling on those busy nights. 

Refueling with Healthy Food Options

Put your feet up and rest.It is okay to do nothing. Don’t feel guilty about it. It could be taking time to read a book that you have been wanting to read. Grabbing a cup of tea with a friend or just taking a nap. Sometimes it can be helpful to even set aside time to rest that way you can protect that time. Breathe

There is no new breathing technique, just the idea that sometimes you have to stop and smell the roses. We love diffusing Young Living Essential Oils. Whether it is lavender to calm us down or Joy to freshen up the room, they have so many amazing scents. We especially love diffusing oils when we need to rest and relax or when we are getting ready for bed.
