Whether you live in California or New York, chances are that when it is raining outside or the weather is cold, your family goes stir crazy. We know ours does! And while it might be fun to watch a movie every now and then, if the weather is bad for a long period of time, it can be difficult to find things for your family to do. We came up with some ideas for the family to do together. And if it is sunny and warm where you are, you can still put these fun ideas to use!

Rainy Day Ideas
  1. Station Rotation Game
    • You set up 5-10 stations throughout the house
    • Things like jump rope, laundry basketball “shooting” socks, crab crawl down the hallway. Take things that you already have and just set them up throughout the house.
    • If you have a less active crowd, you can do stations like trivia, build a tower with blocks, most creative Lego creation.
    • Set the timer for 2-3 minutes
    • Pick things that are age appropriate
    • The kids can even invite their friends over to join in.
    • Each person sees how many they can get during that time period
    • Take their scores after each station
    • And then off to the next station
    • The winner gets to pick a special treat for the family or group
    1. Photo Scavenger hunt
      • Instead of just watching movies, have your family do a photo scavenger hunt and have the prize be a trip to the movie theater or ice cream.
      • Have them work together to figure out the clues
      • It can be a scavenger hunt in an indoor location like one of the local museums or in your house.
      • Each clue includes taking a photo as part of the completion
      • The end result is some funny pictures, getting some of that excess energy out, and having them do an activity instead of just watching a movie.
    2. Photo Crafts
      • Then you can take some of the photos from the scavenger hunt or the holidays and make some crafts.
      • These are fun things you can keep as a family or give away.
      • You can take an old picture frame and paint it. String some twine or fabric and display your photos in the frame.
      • Coasters-Get some tiles from the hardware store. We used HP Social Media  paper to print our photos. They have a sticky back and make it easier to craft. Plus, their size is perfect for the tile. We aren’t graphic artists, so we found some fun apps to drop our photos into and then painted a thin layer of modge podge to seal the photo. Viola! You have a fun coaster to either keep or give away.

Check out some of our coasters that we made.
