As Thanksgiving approaches, families get excited about so many of their annual traditions. From the fabulous feast, to football, shopping and putting up the tree… we share ways families celebrate and maybe you’ll even find a new tradition to adopt.
“Carving” Time for the Family Feast
Every family has the one must have-dish or recipe passed down through the years that becomes a staple for Thanksgiving dinner. Absolutely bake or make the favorite but carve out quality time to spend with family and a less time in the kitchen… leave some of the work to the experts whether it’s the turkey or a ham, or maybe you tackle the meat and introduce new savory sides.
We turn to Omaha Steaks for not only our holiday and seasonal needs, but for all our meat favorites. From turkey to pumpkin pie, potatoes to green beans… Omaha Steaks has everything you need for a complete Thanksgiving meal regardless of the size of your guestlist.
You can find several different types of turkey, ham and beef options as well as side dishes and desserts that can be bundles or bought separately. Plus you can find Thanksgiving recipes and tips on the Omaha Steaks website too. It’s so simple to follow instructions and have the perfect feast delivered right to your doorstep.
Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade & FOX Football
Whether you’re waking up and watching the 95th year of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade or you’re prepping the afternoon for the traditional Thanksgiving Day football game as it returns to FOX with all the trimmings when the Detroit Lions host the Green Bay Packers… elevate the experience at home.
Create a coffee station, grab a blanket and some mugs, and look out for your favorite balloons and floats. We like to make an event of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in our own living room and set up a hot cocoa and coffee bar and snuggle in our blankets on the couch. You can create your own parade tribute with Tiptoe the Reindeer mugs, Parade pajamas, and even Christmas ornaments based on your favorite floats.
And what is Thanksgiving without football! We love creating activities that keep all the arm chair quarterbacks engaged like a passing competition with this target. You could even do a team spirit competition and see who has the best outfit. From shirts and jerseys to all your favorite apparel to cheer your team on, Macy’s has you covered. And for those cheerleaders that get hungry, we love this football platter.
Trim the Tree and Deck the Halls
Dinner is done, it’s time to deck the halls! Poll after poll shows Americans have the tradition of putting up their Christmas Tree the day after Thanksgiving. Let’s maximize the time for holiday decor (and Black Friday deals help too) and completely turn our homes into a winter wonderland. Don’t stop with just the tree, grab garland and wreaths, poinsettias and lanterns and put the carols on repeat!
Balsam Hill is the absolute place to turn when it comes to transforming your home for the holidays. Starting with the widest selection of realistic Christmas trees on the market available in various sizes, foliage types, and setup options. you cannot go with with artificial tree from Balsam Hill. Accompany the tree with their garlands and greenery and immediately your family room or living area becomes a cozy retreat into everything Christmas.
We also love all the touches from ornaments to stocking holders, tree toppers to drums, Balsam Hill has Christmas decor for every style. This year we’re especially loving their Lit Merry Olde Christmas Town Collection too!
Attitude of Gratitude
Thanksgiving is delicious, Black Friday is a frenzy and Christmas is dreamy but let’s not forget the most important aspect of the entire holiday season — having an attitude of gratitude. Taking time to reflect on what you’re thankful for, and thinking about how others have stepped up for you and in turn how you have had the privilege to be a support for others.
One of our Thanksgiving traditions is Turkey on the Table. It is a reusable turkey, where you write down what you are thankful for on a feather. You can have each person do one every day in November leading up to Thanksgiving or have everyone write one before dinner. One of my favorite things is looking back at the feathers that we have written over the years. We also love that each turkey provides ten meals to a person in need through Turkey on the Table’s partnership with Feeding America.
To date, over 1.5 million meals have been donated by Turkey on the Table. We love this for a classroom or office too, to help classmates or co-workers have a visual reminder of what they are thankful for and a way to create dialogue around gratitude.
