Extra, extra read all about it, introducing your kids to theater isn’t too hard and we’re here to shout it! Whether it is Hamilton, Lion King, or Newsies, more and more kids are falling in love with theater. Some are introduced to their favorite shows through movies and others some are fortunate enough to view a show in New York on Broadway. But another great venue to introduce your family to the arts is the local theater. Plus, it is a lot less expensive than a trip to New York and tickets to Broadway! We recently took our family to Moonlight Amphitheater for their production of Disney’s Newsies.
Moonlight is an amazing outdoor venue. We loved being able to take in one of our favorite musicals (sorry Hamilton!), under the stars. There are a variety of seating options to fit the needs of your family. There are reserved seats and lawn seats. Lawn seats are first-come, first-served. We like it because you can pack a picnic, spread out a blanket in front of your seats and the younger kids can stretch and even sing along. Our little guy liked dancing along to “Seize the Day.” Even the baby clapped and bobbed along to the music.
We were impressed by all of the performers. We have seen Disney’s Newsies on Broadway in New York and the cast at Moonlight shone bright! Before the show, we watched the movie and then watched some video clips of the Broadway show to help our little one get a glimpse of what he was about to see. After watching the show at Moonlight, our little guy wants to “watch the songs” again.
Moonlight has performances throughout the year. Make sure to check the venue’s website in regards to the show or concert to make sure it is age-appropriate for your group and what their guidelines are for bringing food into the venue. There are also packages where you can buy a series of tickets too.
