What gear should I get for my baby? Are there tips for breastfeeding and going back to work? How long should my child rear face in their car seat? When do I start feeding baby food? How do I get this baby carrier to work? These are all GREAT questions and they cross the mind of every new or soon-to-be parent. Even if you have one child already, each child is so different so a product or technique that worked with one child may not work for the next. That is why we LOVE going to events like MommyCon. MommyCon is a nationwide convention series designed for expectant families to those with toddlers.
Make sure to check out our Instagram, where you can win two general admission tickets to a MommyCon event. Plus, we will be sharing some highlights from the MommyCon OC event next Saturday on our Instagram stories.
One of our favorite parts of baby shows in general is getting to check out the latest baby gear. There are so many new products on the market and this gives you a chance not just to see them, but ask the experts first-hand any questions you might have. At the last show I attended, I spent quite some time talking with the Car Seat Specialist about how long you should have your baby/toddler be rear-facing. Often, the brands will offer show discounts, samples and giveaways. So it can be a fun way to score some of that baby gear that you need. We recommend bringing a bag or large purse if you want to bring home some of the samples.
One of our favorite areas is the Babywearing Lounge, where you can try out all different types of carriers. This is one of the things that we try to tell our mom friends when they ask, “What type of baby carrier should I get?” We always recommend borrowing from friends or going to a place where you can try it out with your baby before you buy if possible. Each baby is different and each mom/dad body type is different. So a carrier that might feel amazing for one person, might be uncomfortable for the next. If you don’t have a baby yet, they often have baby dolls that are the same weight as a real baby so you can get an idea of how the carrier will sit on your hip, shoulders, etc.
In addition to being able to meet and try out over 50 different baby products, MommyCon also offers a full day of seminars. They have several different classes including Carseat 101, Babywearing, Sleep Consultations and more! As much as we love hearing the unsolicited advice from the random lady at the coffee shop, this is a great opportunity to hear from some of the leading experts in the field on different techniques to help your baby and family.
So grab a friend and head out to the MommyCon Conference in a city near you!
We were given tickets to MommyCon and products from Joovy and Itzy Ritzy, but all of our thoughts and opinions are our own.
