Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and it’s not just for couples! Valentine’s Day is a great time to take your kiddos, nieces/nephews, or grandkids out on a special date. Whether you have one child or eight, taking your child or grandchild on a date is a great way for them to have special dedicated time. A date with your child can be especially helpful when a new sibling has arrived or your schedule has been busy.

Here are some of our favorite family date ideas:

Make something together! We love going to Ceramic Cafeand working on different pieces. You can work on things individually or work on a piece together. We enjoy making a picture frame and then taking a photo of everyone on their family date all dressed up to put in it. It can also be fun to make a coffee mug for a teacher and put a gift card to their favorite gift shop in the mug. You could also make a vase or flower pot and give it to a friend or neighbor. Our absolute favorite is making a keepsake with handprints or footprints to keep or give to grandma. It’s fun to put a date and name(s) on all of these keepsakes.

Make a meal together.Whether it is making pizza from scratch or learning a new dish at a cooking class, it can be a fun family date to make a meal together. Try a new recipe or dish. It can also be a fun way for everyone to appreciate all of the hard work that the cook in the family does each day! Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza & Grillhas the cutest gourmet to-go heart-shaped pizza kit. Each kit has your choice of fresh dough, mozzarella, house-made tomato sauce and basil and is only $7. The best part is that $1 from every Pizza kit sold will benefit the American Heart Association. We love this for date night or even for bringing as a classroom treat for the classroom party. And you can even enter your homemade heart-shaped pizza into a contest to be entered to win a $100 Sammy’s certificate. (Contest runs Feb 1-28thmust post photo on Instagram and tag @sammyswpizza and #iheartsammys to be entered).

Go to your favorite restaurant. This was one of our favorite dates with our parents growing up. We usually picked our favorite spot for dessert. This date idea is especially great if you have multiple kids because we all know the struggle when one kid wants to eat one place and the rest of the family prefers another place. It may not be your favorite place, but remember it is allowing your date to pick their favorite place!

Visit a museum.Pick a museum to explore or choose to do a class or activity at your favorite museum. This is nice to do as a date because often when the entire family goes together, you don’t get to see everything. On the date, allow your child to pick out what they want to see. During February, many of the museums are offering half price tickets through the local library. We share our roundup here.

Children or Family Photoshoot — Don’t forget to take pictures! Kids grow up really fast so it is important to capture them at every age. Valentine’s is a great opportunity to snap a staged photo of your child or get the whole family coordinated for shoot. You can create your own backdrop, or go to a studio, or just match your outfits with reds, pinks and whites. Regardless, you won’t regret taking the time to document the day.

Dress for the Occasion. It’s always fun for kids to dress up and it makes them feel special. Whether you are going out for tea, a matinee, or picnic in the park, put on your best and make a big deal about it. Whether it’s putting on a dress or suit or just a fancy pair of shoes, it can make everyone feel special to get dressed up. We love any excuse to wear Mommy and Me matching outfits. Moderne Childhas the cutest outfits for girls and Mommy and Me matching outfits. There are even Mommy and Me accessories like matching sunglasses and hats. From frilly tutus to lace frocks, your little fashionista is sure to love all of the adorable dresses from Moderne Child.

The boys are rocking Appaman. We love Appaman because the suits and dress pieces are high quality and they make our little guys look so dapper. We also like that they have classic looks as well as pieces that are unique like a silver blazer or red suit. Our little guys love the fun details like a monkey tie or a button-up shirt with burgers.

One of our new favorite dress shoes are Young Soles London They have some of the cutest shoes for kids. Ranging from toddler to junior, they blend retro-cool with classic British heritage styles. Young Soles London also has traditional styles like Mary Janes and boots in black and brown and for those wanting to add a bit of style to their outfit, they have silver, gold and lots of other colors to match your outfit. They use the highest quality materials and are designed to last. We wish they made them in our size too!
