Valentine Family DIY Craft Ideas

Valentine’s Day can fun a fun holiday to remind everyone in your family how much you love them. It doesn’t always have to be filled with chocolate and candy (although those are nice), activities and crafting together can provide for memories that last longer than just the day.

Whether you go to a crafting location like Mint Studio in San Diego, or you transform your kitchen table into a work zone, being together and placing a personalized touch are what will translate most with your finished gifts.

We’ve compiled a few of our favorite types of activities and DIY gift ideas below:

Make your own Valentine’s Day Cards — get out the construction paper, scrapbook paper, stickers, stamps, glue, glitter, pens and ribbon and create your own custom cards. Have each family member make a unique card for each person in the family. Inside write a special message and make sure to date it on the back so you can remember what year this card was delivered with love.

Painted Mason Jar Vases — Any age child can have fun painting a mason jar that will eventually hold a variety of fun items. You can pick flowers from your yard to place it in, make a cake pop bouquet, a even place shredded paper with each piece having a word that represents the way you feel about mom and/or dad (i.e. loved, supported, fun…) or write something you’d like to do together and then each week for the next few months draw a paper out (i.e. coffee date, park afternoon, beach morning, movie matinee…).

Mother-Daughter Stamped Jewelry — Valentine’s can be a special time to showcase the bond between mom and daughter too. A creative way to demonstrate that is to make matching bracelets with a stamped initial. This can be done by getting beads and metal and creating a keepsake that can be worn daily as a reminder of love.

Giant Paper Flowers — While fresh flowers are amazing, paper ones will definitely last longer. Get creative with colors and sizes and create a banner that could be hung on the wall in the family room or bedroom to spread joy to anyone that comes in contact with your masterpiece.

Children or Family Photoshoot — Don’t forget to take pictures! Kids grow up really fast so it is important to capture them at every age. Valentine’s is a great opportunity to snap a staged photo of your child or get the whole family coordinated for shoot. You can create your own backdrop, or go to a studio, or just match your outfits with reds, pinks and whites. Regardless, you won’t regret taking the time to document the day.

Dress for the Occassion — It’s always fun for kids to dress up and it makes them feel special. Whether you are going out for tea, a matinee, or picnic in the park, put on your best and make a big deal about it. All our kids are outfitted in Roco Clothing They are based in the UK and their fabrics and tailoring are top notch. It was so easy for us to select styles online.
