It’s fall y’all! While we love decorating for fall with all things pumpkin and fall crafts, we sometimes get overwhelmed by the clean up. From painting pumpkins to bedazzling and even making some of your favorite movie characters, there are so many great ways to decorate a pumpkin that are fun for the entire family. We focused on no-carve pumpkin options because we love being creative and minimizing mess! Here are some no-carve pumpkin decorating ideas that you can use to decorate your home for fall.
PAINT A PUMPKIN
Whether it is paying tribute to the Great Pumpkin with a Snoopy or Charlie Brown painted pumpkin, marbleizing a pumpkin or just letting your little artists get creative, the pumpkin can be a fun palate. Painting a pumpkin is a fun way to decorate for fall without all the mess of carving.
Movie Character Pumpkin- Have your family pick out their favorite movie characters. It helps if the character has a similar shape to a pumpkin. Draw or stencil any details that will be in a different color. Start with your base paint and then if adult help is needed for painting the details, assist as needed. It can also be fun to accessorize the pumpkins with gourds, leaves or pinecones to create hair or other parts of the character.
Marbelized Pumpkin-This pumpkin paired with a pumpkin spice latte can also be a great gift to leave on a doorstep to encourage a friend during these socially distant times. Marbleizing a pumpkin is relatively easy. Take acrylic paint, we used the Faber Castell Paint Pour Studio. It has 5 acrylic no-mix colors that you can use to create interesting patterns and resists with ease. It also has instructions for several techniques for beginners or younger kids to more advanced. Mix your paint with either a straw or a coffee stirrer. We recommend doing this in an area covered with paper/plastic and wearing clothes that you wouldn’t be upset if paint got on them as acrylic paint can stain.
A fun way for the younger family members to get involved by using stickers and jewels to bedazzle mini pumpkins. We used Faber Castell Big Gem Diamond Painting set. It is great because no glue is needed. Just peel the clear cover off your designs to reveal adhesive, then use the stylus to pick up and place the colorful gems. It is great that there are patterns for younger ones to work with or older ones can add to a pumpkin for extra decor.
GLAM A PUMPKIN
From your family name to a fun saying, you can stylize your pumpkin with embellishments including metallic lettering, glitter and even succulents.
Learning how to foil was so much easier than expected, thanks to our Xyron Glaminator. I was so excited at the thought of adding metallic to my projects but doing something new can always be daunting. I like to think of myself as a crafter and definitely try some unique tactics, but even so I still had a stare-down with the machine for a good two weeks before I decided to tackle this new tech.
Once I cleared off the space and decided to move forward with the project, I quickly learned it could not be easier! It is literally less than a handful of steps and the foil turned out perfect on my first try. It takes less time than painting your nails (which I desperately need to do too).
First I plugged in and turned on the machine. Then I moved the tab to the star icon as stated for heated foil. While waiting for the light to turn green, I wrote Hello Fall (or whatever you’d like) on the computer, printed it on my Canon laser printer, and was already half way done. Then I took the paper and placed it face up in the transfer carrier, cut the foil to cover the top (shiny side up) and then I fed it through the machine and viola! A couple minutes for it to cool and then when I peeled it back, the most beautiful gold metallic lettering was shimmering back at me, Hello Fall!
It’s so addicting I want to foil everything I can… the holidays are going to be so fun this season… Christmas is coming and we’ll be shinning!
