Happy 4th of July!

With just a couple days, left until 4th of July we can find ourselves scrambling to find patriotic inspired items to make or bring to the BBQ. We have some quick and easy food and decor ideas that are perfect if you’re hosting a get together or headed to someone else’s party.

 Food

  • Red, white and blue flag fruit tray. This can be a nice little healthy balance to the BBQ. Simply take strawberries, blueberries and for white you can use honey dew melon. Cut the strawberries and honey dew into bite-size pieces. We used yogurt covered pretzels. Or you can even use mini-marshmallows for the white stripe. Arrange on a platter to resemble a flag.
  • Flag rice treats. Make 3 portions of rice treats. Adding red food coloring to one portion and blue to the other. The last portion will be left plain. Layer the portions to make a flag and then cut into squares. See our Instagram post on how we did it.
  • Patriotic Sangria. For the adults, this can be a nice alternative to beer. Plus it looks fancy! Take a sangria mix or use a fruity wine and pair it with strawberries, blueberries and use a cookie cutter to cut stars into pineapple or honeydew melon. You can also use a sparkling lemonade or juice if you want to serve a kid-friendly version of this.

Fun

  • Rocket Bowling. For the kids, you can create bowling pins out of soda bottles. Simply wrap them in aluminum foil. Take some electrical or washi tape to make lines and decorate with construction paper in festive patterns. You can even use stickers. Then have a bowling competition in the house or backyard.
  • Decorate a rocket. Some kids might enjoy decorating their own rocket. Consider having a station with soda bottles, aluminum foil, stickers and paper so they can make their own to take home.

Decor

  • Flag mason jars. Take three mason jars and paint a simple flag across the three. Paint the white base, using tape to create lines and then paint the red after it dries. After you paint the third jar blue, you can either paint the white stars on or use stickers to decorate. You can use to put serving utensils in or fill with flowers and bring to host.
  • Fill frames with freedom-inspired printables. There are many different free prints online. Simply print and put into a frame. Can be used on table with food, on the mantle or around the house for decor. We used our HP Envy and HP photo paper to create these printables. It was much easier than trying to find décor in the store!

We received HP Envy and HP photo paper as part of being HP Smart Panel Moms, but all thoughts and ideas are our own.
